Tutorial - Summer's End Earrings

"Summer's End" Earrings.

Difficulty level: Level 1 - Beginner (For explanation of ratings please see Tutorials home page)
Time: 10-30 minutes depending on experience

Deceptively elegant and wonderfully easy chandelier earrings to compliment the other 'Summer's End' range. Works well in any colour scheme so if reds & oranges aren't your thing, try it in a different colour combination. With all my instructions, I'm simply describing how I do it. There may be other techniques and you may find that another suits you better - there's usually no right or wrong method, only how comfortable you are using it.

What you will need

KNOWLEDGE
You will need to know the techniques in the following tutorial:
T1 - Simple Wire Loops

I used the following which made up one pair of earrings.

2 x Gold Filled Almond Chandeliers
2 x Gold Filled Ear Wires (you could use ball studs if preferred)
2 x Gold Filled Head Pins
2 x 9mm Teardrop Beads - Siam AB
2 x 4mm Round Beads - Fire Opal
2 x 3mm Round Beads - Light Siam

I also needed the following basic jewellers tools:
Wire cutters
Flat pliers (I used two pairs - I prefer two to open and close loops)
Round Nose Pliers

Making Your Earrings

Start by threading the first three beads onto a headpin in the order 4mm round, 9mm teardrop, 3mm round.

Beads on head pin

Use a pair of flat nose pliers to bend the end of the headpin at a right angle then form a loop with your round nose pliers. (See T1 - Simple Wire Loops tutorial for full instructions on loops.)

Simple wire loop

Open the loop on your beaded headpin enough to slide it onto the inner loop of your almond chandelier. Close the headpin loop with your flat nose pliers.

Chandelier Drops

Use your flat nose pliers to open the loop on one of your ear wires.

Gold Filled Ear Wire

Slide the almond chandelier on by its top loop and close the ear wire loop.

chandelier earrings with swarovski crystal

Repeat for the second earring. Wear with pride!
